Hi! I'm Laura McQueen, and I can’t wait to geek out with you on all things sports performance and recovery!

I’m a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner (NTP), specializing in sports nutrition and concussion recovery. I am also the founder of The Good Repair.

I'm here to help fine-tuning your nutrition with real whole foods, and by eliminating gluten, refined sugar, sweets, processed foods, and unhealthy fats in your diet.

When you are young you can get away with eating garbage (yes, I said garbage) and processed foods while still maintaining a high level of performance. Over time this will wear you down from the inside out. As you age, your body will begin to break down from the years of high performance & poor nutrition habits. However, this is where eating a clean, real whole foods diet can make a BIG impact on the way you perform, recover, and how you age, making it possible to still perform and do the things you love into a very old age.

By changing your nutrition habits early on you will be doing yourself (and your family & friends) a favor by setting yourself up for a healthy, medication-free, athletic-filled, long life ahead.

My entire life I have been into sports and athletics. I started out playing T-ball, then I graduated to softball, basketball, and volleyball. Next thing I knew I was playing fast pitch and crushing it on the pitchers mound and at 2nd base. I started to dabble in soccer before high school, so when freshman year rolled around I had to make a choice between softball and soccer. I chose soccer, and I ended up playing 3 out of 4 seasons every year. I was a busy, tired little defender, but I loved it. It was my sport.

When I was in my 20’s I started running. This started merely as a way to support a friend who wanted to run a marathon, but of course, I got hooked! I ran the LA Marathon 2x, along with a handful of half marathons and sprint triathlons. I was in a time where I wanted to try it all and I wanted to push myself to see what I could do. And guess what? I could do A LOT!

I will tell you that the one thing that was missing was proper nutrition during all of my training, running, and sport playing. I don’t know if it was a sign of the times or what, but there was not information then like there is today. Most of my running coaches only offered the advice of eating shot blocks, energy gels, sport beans, and pretzels as the best way to fuel my running. I didn’t know any better so I listened. I always crossed the finished line, but I always felt like sh**, and it took me weeks to recover from my long runs. My muscles and my joints were left feeling very inflamed. This didn’t feel right and it was not ideal.

I knew there had to be a better way.

It was in 2012 that I learned about the Paleo lifestyle (eating clean, nutrient dense & grain-free foods from the earth), and it changed my life.

I INSTANTLY FELT ENERGY, EXCITEMENT, AND LIFE COMING BACK INTO MY ACTIVITIES AND WORKOUTS. I WAS BLASTING THROUGH INTENSE WODS AND EASILY POWERING THROUGH ANY LONG BIKE RIDES. I THOUGHT FOR SURE I FOUND MY NUTRITION MIRACLE!

BUT FINDING PALEO WAS ONLY PART OF MY JOURNEY. ALTHOUGH I WAS EATING CLEAN AND HEALTHY, I COULD TELL THAT SOMETHING STILL WASN'T DIALED IN WITH MY NUTRITION. IT TURNS OUT I WAS STRUGGLING WITH INSULIN RESISTANCE, HORMONE IMBALANCE, ADRENAL STRESS, FOOD ALLERGIES, HEAVY METAL TOXICITY, AND LEAKY GUT.

If you’re thinking, WOW that’s a big list, you’re damn right!

I WAS SCARED, CONFUSED, AND JUST WANTED TO FEEL LIKE MYSELF AGAIN. MOST OF ALL I WANTED ANSWERS, AND I WANTED A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO MY SITUATION. THAT’S WHEN I DECIDED TO WORK WITH A NUTRITIONAL THERAPY PRACTITIONER TO HELP ME UNCOVER THE ROOT CAUSES OF MY HEALTH ISSUES SO I COULD BEGIN MY HEALING JOURNEY.

IT WAS DURING THIS TIME THAT I DISCOVERED I HAD A PASSION FOR NUTRITION AND HELPING OTHER ATHLETES, LIKE MYSELF. I WANT TO SHARE THIS PASSION WITH OTHERS

which is why I chose to continue my education with the NUTRITIONAL THERAPY ASSOCIATION in 2017, and now I am a certified Nutritional Therapy Practitioner.

These days I use valuable nutritional therapy techniques, and science backed research, in my practice (and in my daily life) to improve energy levels, minimize daily stressors, and improve athletic performance. The work I continue to do with my clients also addresses issues such as: digestion, adrenal stress, blood sugar regulation, mineral and essential fatty acid balance, and supporting women’s hormones.

I’ve seen so much progress in my own health from working 1:1 with a practitioner, that I truly can’t wait to help you feel and perform your best!
